First Energy Concast
The First Energy Company
Ed – Carlisle – Shinrock 138 kv Tap to Concast Birmingham Project
On April 13, 2007 Vaughn Industries L.L.C. submitted a bid proposal to The First Energy Company for a new 138 kv overhead line tap to a customer located in Birmingham, Ohio. Vaughn Industries was notified on April 16, 2007 that they were the low bidder and they would be awarded the job.
The First Energy Concast 138 kv Tap project was unusual in one way, and that is that Vaughn Industries was notified that the project was theirs on April 16, 2007, they needed to mobilize their manpower and equipment on April 23, 2007 and the project needed to be complete on May 31, 2007.
The project consisted of 26 wood poles ranging in size from 50’ to 95’, one H-Frame style 2 pole motor operated switch structure, one H-Frame style three pole motor operated switch structure, 4,340 line feet of three 336.4 acsr 26/7 phase conductors, 4,138 line feet of one 3#6 alumaweld static conductor, an Ohio Turnpike crossing, the coordination and scheduling of a ten day outage on an existing 138 kv line and 75% of the project was in private right of way.
This project like any other presented some interesting developments that The First Energy Company and Vaughn Industries L.L.C. needed to work together and overcome to complete the common goal. A few of these developments were solid rock excavation, delayed switch material delivery and crossing the Ohio Turnpike on a Sunday morning.
Vaughn Industries L.L.C. is proud to say that the ten day outage was completed in five days, beginning on May 21, 2007 and the total project was complete on May 25, 2007.
Once again Vaughn Industries L.L.C. is able to say that the V-Team was able to work together with their customers to complete a project with ZERO SAFETY INCIDENTS and ahead of schedule.
